Description

This spindle whorl is of the animals Sthuqi'(Sockeye) and Tumus(SeaOtter). It represents a story that I created which takes place in my traditional homeland of Lyeksun(Valdez) island in the Salish sea. Spindle whorls are wooden discs that are used to help make wool in the traditional fashion. Putting the art on the spindle is a traditional art form for my people. The art would spin while the wool was made and the elder would tell the story depicted on the whorl to help teach the smuneem(children of the community) about life and what is expected of them when they grow up(morals).

Design was handed painted onto a silkscreen, then hand pulled onto Stonehenge serigraph paper.

Limited edition of 40, each signed and numbered.
